About Superior HealthPlan

Superior HealthPlan is Texas’s only provider of health services to children and youths in foster care. Under a contract with Texas Health and Human Services Commission, they work with clinics and hospitals statewide to ensure every child has access to essential care, including primary care providers, behavioral health specialists and vision services.

Superior HealthPlan offers managed health care coverage to more than 1.7 million Texas residents in all 254 state counties. Since 1999 they have taken a members-first approach to health care by focusing on the whole health of the individual and forming community partnerships to support their members, one person at a time. It’s why Superior is one of the leading Medicaid plans in Texas. Superior HealthPlan has also been recognized as a Family Friendly Workplace by Early Matters Greater Austin for its dedication to the health and safety of its employees.

In addition to STAR Health, Superior also offers STAR (Medicaid), Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), STAR Kids (Medicaid), STAR+PLUS (Medicaid) and STAR+PLUS Medicare-Medicaid Plan (MMP) in many cities and counties across Texas. Superior also offers Medicare Advantage.

Since 2015, Superior HealthPlan has received a score of 3.5 or higher on a 5.0 scale on the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Medicaid Health Insurance Plan Ratings. This includes a score of 3.5 for 2024. Additionally, Superior has maintained the NCQA Distinction in Multicultural Health Care since 2019, earned by organizations that excel in providing culturally and linguistically sensitive services while working to reduce health-care disparities.
