Date: 03/26/25

In today’s world of phones and computers, your eyes are constantly being strained by looking at screens for too long. Although limiting screentime can help, there are several other ways you can protect eyes and your vision.

  1. Get an eye exam. You may not have any symptoms of eye problem, but visiting your vision provider is the only way to know for sure and catch any problems from arising.
  2. Wear sunglasses. This will protect your eyes from the sun. Look for sunglasses that block out 100% of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.
  3. Wash your hands before touching your eyes. This is especially important if you wear contact lenses to avoid eye infections.
  4. Eat right! Many people may know that carrots are good for your eyes, but dark leafy greens like spinach or kale also provide vitamins your eyes need. Some types of fish can help too, such as salmon or tuna.
  5. Manage any chronic conditions. People who have type 2 diabetes or other chronic conditions like obesity are at a higher risk of developing vision problems. It is important to keep these conditions in control.
