Diabetic Meter Program

Date: 02/05/18

As a reminder, Superior launched a Preferred Diabetic Meter Program last year. Superior’s preferred brand of blood glucose meter and test strips is TRUE METRIX. These supplies are available to members at no cost through their pharmacy benefits.

To provide a TRUE METRIX Meter or diabetic testing supplies to members, providers must:

  1. Provide a prescription to a member for TRUE METRIX Air or TRUE METRIX Meter and diabetic testing supplies.
  2. Ensure the member takes the prescription and processing information to a drug store or pharmacy in Superior’s Network. Members may also choose to continue receiving their blood glucose meters supplies through an in-network Durable Medical Equipment (DME) provider.

See table below for processing information:

Test Strips & Supplies: Bill to Superior Pharmacy Benefits

The pharmacy should bill the meter using the processing information above. The pharmacy should bill the test strips and future refills to the Superior pharmacy benefit information on the member’s ID card. If the pharmacy does not have the preferred meter in stock, they can direct the member to another in-network pharmacy that has the meter or the pharmacy can order it. Pharmacies can generally receive a meter from their supplier within a few business days.

Please note: If the pharmacy processes a non-preferred test strip, they will receive a rejection directing them to dispense a TRUE METRIX Air or TRUE METRIX Meter.

Members diagnosed with certain vision-related issues can continue to use a talking meter and related supplies. Special meters may require an authorization.

STAR Kids and STAR+PLUS members with Intellectual and Development Disabilities (IDD) that are currently in their Continuity of Care (COC) phase, will not be required to use the preferred meter until they complete their individual COC phase.
